If you are avoiding a dental visit for a long time then there can be many risks which can turn out to be a major problem in future. hence for people who are phobic about going to a dentist can really relax in the dentist chair. Sedation dentistry in Lakewood is the answer for people who fear, with the help of sedation dentistry people can remove much of the anxiety.

Types of sedation used in dentistry

Sedation can be helpful in treating many procedures ranging from invasive procedures to simple teeth cleaning. How it is used depends on the severity of the fear.

Inhaled minimal sedation: In this treatment, you will be made to breathe nitrous oxide which is also known as laughing gas. The gas is combined with oxygen through a mask which is placed over your nose. A dentist can control the amount of sedation that is needed for the treatment and the gas tends to wear off quickly. This is the least form of sedation where a patient can be conscious and can drive home after the dental procedure.

Oral sedation: Oral sedation can be given depending on the situation, it can range from minimal to moderate. When the dose is minimal you will be given a pill which will make you drowsy but you will still be awake throughout the procedure. A larger dose can result in moderate sedation which can make the patient fall asleep during the procedure. Moderate sedation is one of the commonly used sedation dentistry procedure.

IV moderate sedation: In this procedure, you receive a sedative drug through a vein so that sedation is applied more quickly. This method allows the dentist to manage the level of sedation.

Deep sedation and general anesthesia: In this procedure, a patient will almost or totally go unconscious during the procedure. You will be awakened until the effect of anesthesia wear off or until it is reversed with medication.
